The Area The Orihuela region, with it's many museums, monuments, churches, and historic buildings, is well worth a visit. The old part of the town of Orihuela was declared a historic-artistic and monumental area in 1969. There are many noble buildings, six of which are declared Cultural Heritage. History is also in abundance in the nearby towns of Murcia and Cartagena. For the lovers of ecological and environmental tourism, you may like to visit the lakes of La Mata and Torrevieja, where you can enjoy a mud bath, recommended by doctors around the world for it's curative properties for a large number of rheumatic dermatological, heart and respiratory complaints. There are several natural hot spas in this area. The most popular, Fortuna and Archena, are an hours drive away through the picturesque mountains. The natural mineral waters will soak away your aches and pains and totally relax you. An absolute must for a day out!
Golfers Paradise Playa Flamenca is surrounded by five first class 18 hole golf courses ; Villamartin, Royal Campoamor, Las Ramblas, La Finca and Ciudad Quesada, all within a short drive from our apartment. Other courses including La Manga complex available within a 30 - 45 minute drive from the apartment. Villamartin golf course is located on the Orihuela Costa is the closest (10 minute drive) and probably the best-known course in the area. Designed by Paul Putman and opened in 1972 the 1994 Mediterranean open was hosted here and, to much local delight, was won by Jose Maria Olazabal. The course is not too long, and is well adapted to the natural surroundings and terrain. Being located in the lowest part of a valley means it is not very undulating. There is plenty of Mediterranean vegetation as well as thick woods and there’s a natural precipice you need to avoid. A number of holes have water hazards. This region of Spain enjoys particularly pleasant winters, and is ideal for golf.

The nearest large supermarket, Mercadona is just a short walk away.

There are 2 commercial centres Via Park I and II and Playa Flamenca both within 5/10 minutes walk offering a wide range of bars and restaurants including Spanish, Chinese, Italian, Tex-Mex, Irish and English bars.

A Spanish market is held every Saturday just around the corner a must for bargain hunters.

Villamartin Plaza is another commercial centre just a little further away which also has a wide range of international cuisine.

Torrevieja itself has a large market and there is also a craft market on the seafront each day. It has a very cosmopolitan feel with many good inexpensive restaurants and bars to choose from and is well worth a daytime or evening visit.
